Inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement, #DarkMatter reinterprets classic fairy tales and folklore as a means to tell a moral of the story, a lesson to learn or a warning to heed. I draw parallels between unknown hoods and ‘hoods, illustrating the parts of our universe that some have yet to discover.

TREY, a Red Riding Hood archetype in memory of the young soul Trayvon Martin, now drifting among the stars.

ROBYN HOOD, a girl who, when forced to vacate her home for the sake of capitalist gain, gathers her band of merry misfits to take back their land.

ROTTEN, a girl fleeing for her safety, must seek refuge among seven wharfs and dodge poisonous offerings in the hopes that someday her prince will come.

These books were created using digital media, bookbinding, handcrafts, and my own poetry. Open the books to follow the narratives of these three characters as they tell their tales...

“This was my home, but they didn’t believe it.”

“This was my home but they won’t let me keep it.”

“This was my home but I had to leave it.”
